Emma's Sneak Peek

I had the privelege of photographing this little one yesterday. She was JUST the sweetest thing. What a great way to spend a Saturday morning :)

One more step to self sufficiency

So my kids are pretty good at taking care of themselves. Other than needing me to unlock the pantry and change a diaper here or there, I could pretty much stay in bed all day and they would find a way to feed and entertain themselves for a day or so. However, there is the one most favorite food item which thus far has required my assistance... the dreaded peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

G wants PB&J for breakfast everyday. I refuse to make PB&J for breakfast. Ever. The complexity of the task is too much for me before I've had at least 3 hours to become fully aware. The preparation of the ingredients, the spreading, the crust removal, the crust disposal and then of course, the putting away... so much when she could simply have a nice Kashi toaster waffle or a organic Nutrigrain bar. Both of which she can fix herself.

So, yesterday, when she inevitably asked for PB&J for breakfast once again, I finally told her yes. She was taken aback but thrilled. Until I told her she could have it, but she had to make it herself. I assisted her in the tasks of opening the jars and instructed her on the proper method for spreading the butter. I showed her where we keep the crust cutter offer, and then, when the sandwich was complete, she had to clean up before she could eat it. Boy, was she proud of herself. She has made PB&J for herself for every meal since, and I am confident she will master the art of proper PB spreading shortly. And then, my friends, I shall be free.
