hot child in the city

Once, when Sex and the City was still making new shows, Carrie was walking down the sidewalk wearing a pouffy, high-waisted skirt and Jimmy Choos, and the song that accompanied her during this sassy sashay was "Hot Child in the City" by Pat Benetar. It was the very first time I had ever heard the tune, and I immediately loved it like a dog loves Jerky Treats.

Well, a few weekends ago I did a shoot with Young MissE, and while I was picking out her outfit the song was running through my head. MissE, you see, is a very sweet kid, who has a strong sense of self and a style that I think rocks. She also happens to be a very smart young lady... and a girl who my kids all adore. I can only hope they turn out to be as good a teenager as she is.

Here is your sneak peek MissE...

Water! Pizza! Cupcakes! What else do you need??

So G was feeling a little blue that she wasn't going to have a birthday party with ALL of her friends this year. She was only going to get a week long trip to the happiest place on earth. So, we made a deal... she could have a party at the neighborhood pool and invite all of her friends, but that meant that she couldn't buy a new princess dress at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.

Well, it seemed like a fair trade at the time....

So, to the chagrin of Miss Manners and Emily Post, I invited everyone over to the pool, you know, a week before the big day. And I did invite everyone... well everyone whose address I had handy on my desk and/or who I spoke to that week anyway. And so little miss had her big blowout birthday bash.

It was nothing fancy... a single balloon and some mismatched dollar store banners and tableware served as decorations. Sustenance was in the form of cheese pizza from Domino's, cut into squares just the way she liked them. (I calculated the square inch area required for the volume of guests before hand...we ended up with nine pizzas. Yes, I was an engineer...once upon a time) She and Little Man helped me make and frost the cupcakes the night before. Mister even tried to help with the sprinkling of them, bless his heart. It was a family project.

Everyone came to the shindig. The good weather even stayed until the party was over. It may have been the very best party ever.

Time for some swimming!

Remember Baby Eli?

Little Guy slept through the rest of the festivities.

The princess and her loot. Oh my.

We are STILL working on the thank you notes...because I am one of those moms that requires her to at the very least write to to and from names. It is a long process.

Five years ago. You can guess what happened then. Amazing all the changes in just five year's time.

Happy Birthday, Sweetness!

sweething: etsy

I LOVE etsy. Etsy is an online marketplace for buying & selling all things handmade.... their motto is: Buy, Sell, and Live Handmade. Anything you could possibly want to buy you can find on etsy. Last winter, I bought the kids matching hand-knit hats, pink for G and blue for Little Guy. They got so many compliments on them! This red one was the tops, though. So adorable! If you get a chance, go to http://www.etsy.com/ and get lost for a while...

Sicko.

Poor Little Man. He woke up at midnight with a raging fever, just as I was heading upstairs to pass out (literally). I took him downstairs and got him some medicines, then made him a pallet on our floor where he slept all night. G also ended up in our room for some reason...I think she was lonely in her bedroom without Little Man. Today has been a day of nothing. I've been resting (the pregnancy thing isn't so good for me), Little Man made himself a nest on the floor in front of the TV (I would've chosen the couch, but he's young and limber), G hung out quietly with us all day without getting to upset that she couldn't play outside. Even Mister came home early and took a rest. Hopefully tomorrow will be a healthier day.
